I'm pretty sure I didn't upload these files:
MM_CASETEST4291 XYIZNWSK Any idea what these are? Thanks Cindy |

They're DreamWeaver related.

You sure about those being DW related? I have seen a folder called _notes, but nothing as described above.

Actually, Cindy, you might want to make sure you've installed the latest version of PostNuke and of your forum. It's possible that those folders were test folders created by a hacker who exploited a vulnerability in PostNuke.

They're dreamweaver related - I'll post links in a moment. I hadn't done that last night as I didn't have that much time to look them up. (packing and such)

I had a few minutes so I'll try & save Eric the time...
MM technote 14413 says Dreamweaver writes the directory XYIZNWSK and then removes it (or is supposed to) in order to get the servers time in order to do any synchronizing of files between the local & server. If it's still there, something didn't go right. I saw some problems with *nix servers because the directory DW creates is upper case & sometimes servers are set up to convert to lowercase to head off case problems. Because DW tries to delete XYIZNWSK once it's written, if the file was autorenamed to xyiznwsk, XYIZNWSK doesn't exists and it can hose DW's FTP stuff up or at the very least, the Synchronize functionality. It doesn't appear that DH servers are doing the anything with renaming to lower case though. I'd recommend using a different FTP program or cPanel's file manger to manually delete that directory & see how things go from there. It may be a permissions issue or something. And if you don't need/want to use the Synchronize functionality, you can just ignore it completely. I couldn't find much on MM_CASETEST4291--lots and lots of hits on google which find are just directory listings of people's folders by that name--so sounds like a common problem. It sounds like a similar situation to the above one though, Dreamweaver is writing out the directory for some reason and not deleting it. But I couldn't find any documentation from Macromedia or otherwise actually explaining why. I'd delete it as well, and at the very least, you can try FTPing with DW and try to find out when & why the directory is getting written. HTH steve |

I stand corrected then. I haven't experienced DW creating uppercase directories but it could I presume.
Everyone that has DWMX 2004, you have applied the recent upgrade, right? After installing this, my FTP problems pretty much vanished, except at home, that's because I'm too impatient, stupid dial-up.

Thanks Steve, for getting that information.
I'm actually staying with my brother in Green Bay right now trying to get ready/some sleep before leaving for Chicago. So far I estimate 4 hours of sleep. We'll see how that goes ![]() |
